James W. Greenrose,

Ex-Captain 381

July 27, 1940 - February 25, 2006

The Town of Babylon of Fire Wire is dedicated in the memory of James W. Greenrose, who passed away suddenly on February 25, 2006. Jimmy as he was known around Sheet 4, where he was a proud member since 1981. Jimmy was also a member with the North Lindenhurst Vol. Fire Department before transferring to the Lindenhurst Fire Department. Jimmy was also a retired Fire Marshal from the Melville Fire Department. After his retirement, Jimmy became the Lindenhurst Fire Department's Chief's Aide. Where he spent several hours every week responding to numerous alarms, making sure that the New York State Fire Reports were completed correctly. Jimmy also assisted with fire investigations within the Village. Jimmy was always looked up to by the younger members of Sheet 4 because of his activeness with the Fire Department at his age. He was always one of the first at the firehouse for a fire call, whether it be 2 in the afternoon or 2 in the morning.

I always enjoyed talking to Jimmy, he was like a father figure to me and several other firefighters at Sheet 4. Jimmy would always tell stories of his fire career in the old days, which were always enjoyable after meetings, calls, or just hanging out at the firehouse. In the few years I knew Jimmy, I learned an awful lot from him. I'm greatly sadden that I will not be able to learn from his knowledge any more. Online Jimmy would chat & trade stories with firefighters in Italy. He would always tell me to keep the Fire Wire updated because the "boys" in Italy enjoyed looking at it to see what Jimmy's fire career was like in the United States. I could probably make this dedication page several pages long, filled with stories and experiences with Jimmy, but I would like to finish by saying, Jimmy was a great man, a knowledgeable, dedicated, & experienced firefighter & fire marshal. Outside of the Fire Department, Jimmy, as told by his Son was a great husband, father, & grandfather. Jimmy left behind his wife, son & daughter, and several grandchildren. Jimmy will always be remembered in all of Sheet 4's member's hearts.

Rest In Peace, James W. Greenrose

Below are some pictures from recent years of Jimmy in action.
