10/12/87 12:17 East Farmingdale
responded to a working fire at 148 Allen Blvd, the Lexony International
building, a 200,000 square foot warehouse containing plastic toys & stuff
animals. 1-5-26 The Department's Chemist John Pedneault determined the smoke
contained cyanide gas from the plastics in the building and suggested a
evacuation. The Suffolk County Police assisted in evacuating the Great Neck
Area. Mutual aid was requested from; North Amityville, North Lindenhurst,
Farmingdale, & South Farmingdale, West Babylon, & Melville. The Town of
Babylon Disaster Plan was activated also bringing; Lindenhurst, North Babylon,
Babylon, Deer Park, Copiague, & Deer Park Fire Departments to the scene. A
signal 1 was also called for. Seven firefighters & Three civilians suffered
minor injuries.
